Spring Series
(Overall Final Results Here)

May 01: Light winds but reasonable racing.

All were in a bit of a learning mode and 1st and 2nd place were only 0.25 point apart, and both had one one bad race.

A couple of F32s sailed a couple of demonstration races as well.

May 8 :Very windy from west, so there were a lot of waves that made tacking a bit tricky if you hit a wave just as you were trying to come about. Since the races went quickly, we did 8 races, all to count which is why the scores are high. Peter Sly was great with three firsts!
Terry was sailing his Fantasy 32 on the race course and on the first race managed to hit Brian and dismast his Mini 12. By the time the boat was rescued and repaired several races had passed. In addition, Brian put his mast back in the wrong place so the tuning was way out for the races he did manage to complete. It did show how critical Mini 12 tuning was to doing well in the races.

Terry and Brian tried their F32s for a race but the high winds and big waves made these small boats almost unmanageable when trying to tack. The light weight of these boats means little momentum, making coming about very difficult. It was often necessary to gyb to come about.

May 15: Six Mini 12s raced. Once again, very windy and high waves so we set the course in the inner harbour behind the main dock. Still a lot of surf here, but at least a lost boat wouldn't go too far. We did eight races, all to count, again.

Interesting racing with Peter Sly doing very well with THREE first and John had Two firsts, as did Peter Savidge. However, it shows how consistancy pays off as Brian, although he had only one first, won over all with all his seconds and one third.

Norm's boat almost sunk as it was apparently holed during a collision and took on a lot of water before he realized that something was wrong.

May 22: A great day for those who relish the light airs, at least it was warm!
No major collisions, dismasting etc., what a dull day! Jill had to leave early and missed the last 2 races and Brian had his transmitter battery beeping ominously during the last race and elected not to finish. Unfortunately for Peter, #84 could not get going consistently. Maybe the 18lb. of weight had something to do with that!

We also had three Fantasy 32s out for some practice racing. Only did two races (John, Terry, Brian) as winds were too variable and Terry kept having radio problems. However, Brian, #15 did manage to cross the finish line first in both "races".

May 29 : Finally nice to get a good breeze and not one to blow your socks off! A very close and competive day of races.
The old salt came out for the first time and showed us how it should be done - congratulations Don!
Being consistent in this close fleet (Peter S had FIVE first in the 8 races but also a 5th. Don had one first but was consistently second for most of the other races.) makes all the difference. Winning the battle doesn't count for much if you can't win the war!

Final Results for Mini 12 Spring Series

The scores carried forward from each race day = score divided by number of boats that day During series we raced 7of the 8 days - so best 4 days counted (50% of races plus one) so if raced all race days then we drop 2 highest scores. Days less than 4 are brought up to 4 by adding the highest score in the series for each day.
Scores are only for those who participated in at least one race of the series.

The top three were very close (Only 0.373 points between first and third!). Competing regularly, and having those throw-aways, really helps!

July 10: Winds started as acceptable but died offering no hope for those of us with "fat" boats!
Congratulations John - you read the course before the rest of us caught on, but more important, your boat out performed us!
Congratulations also to Ron for his 3rd in Race 7.

July 31 : Beautiful steady winds with a few small shifts to add some excitement.
Congratulations Chris! But it was close! Thank Peter Sly for gallantly allowed Peter Savidge to finish ahead of him in the last race after our tangle. It was not Brian's day what with a faulty diamond spreader (not noticed until after the racing) and the batteries on his Spektrum 2.4 Ghz transmitter giving out after only about 20 minutes of actual on time. They really need to provide a better battery pack for their otherwise excellent RC spread spectrum RC gear.

Fall Series

August 21: First race of the Fall Series.
South east winds created a challenge because of the Ankorage, but a different course was sent to counter this, featuring a reaching start and a triangular course. The second leg became the windward one.
The wind became flucky as the evening progressed so to get in our 8 races, the last 3 races were once around the triangle rather that twice.
