Scoring Methods and Calculations of Final Results

There are FOUR sessions per year for which awards are given.  All racing takes place each Tuesday afternoon, unless there is a postponement to the following Thursday afternoon:

Point Scoring:
For each race:  1st = 0.75, 2nd = 2, 3rd = 3, etc.
A DNS or DNF = Number of boats in that race plus one

Total scores for each day will be equalized to other race days by dividing the total number of points by the number of boats racing on that day.  This is to help equalize the situation where on some race days there may only be 5 boats competing, while other days there may be more than a dozen.

A boat may race in any number of days in a series to qualify for that series.  However, sailing more than 5 days (or 50% of days plus one) provides throw-aways.  Sailing less than five days (or 50% plus one) will result in a fleet plus one score for the missed days.  Each boat's five (or 50% plus one) lowest daily scores will be used to determine the total for that series.

Ties for individual race days will be scored as such.

A tie score for a Series and the Final Regatta will be broken using the number of firsts or firsts and seconds.

Don is preparing a method of handicapping that we may use for final trophy results.  Stay tuned.

Potential Sailing Venues and Locations

Bay of Quinte Yacht Club

Sailing takes place at the far southern end of the club.  Excellent location for prevailing SW winds.  Useable in essentially all wind directions.  Need dingy to set marks.
Note that on Tuesday afternoons in July and August, due to Youth Sailing School we will either use Oak Lake or start racing at BQYC at 6:00 pm.

Oak Lake

Access to the lake is via the generous hospitality of a cottage owner.  Location is at the end of the Oak Lake entrance road at the top of the hill on Hyw 42.
Not very good for NW winds due to high trees along the shoreline.  Can still be used, but marks must be set far out from shore.  Owner allows use of his dingy for setting marks.
