With
a fleet comprising power boats and sailboats of all sizes, and located
within the protected waters of the Bay of Quinte, the BQYC is an ideal
centre for cruising activity.
Going
West, you can navigate the Murray Canal from Trenton to Brighton at Presqu'ile
Bay, and once there, the whole of Lake Ontario awaits you.
Going
East, you pass Sandy Cove (a super spot for lunch, or a comfortable overight
if you are taking your time) and across Big Bay to Telegraph Narrows and
on to Deseronto, with lots to explore along the way.
Then
its South towards Picton, maybe taking a detour into Hay Bay, before turning
East again into Adolphus Reach and past Glenora, ending up at Prinyer's
Cove, claimed to be "a jewel among Bay of Quinte's achorages".
And all
the way along, the shorelines are dotted with attractive little bays,
coves, marinas, towns, sights to see and places to visit. It's sailing
heaven in the Bay of Quinte!
And if
that isn't enough, you can carry on East beyond the end of the Bay, to
arrive at Kingston, the gatway to the famed Thousand Islands, and there
spend many days sailing among the most interesting and attractive locations.
Or you can go South, into the Lake, and visit our American neighbours
in one of the many Clubs south of the border.
So whether
you are just looking for a weekend away, or maybe going off for longer,
there are countless destinations possible, all starting at the Bay of
Quinte Yacht Club.
The
BQYC Club Cruise
Club
cruises
are organised annually, involving both sail and power boats, seeking
out the many attractive destinations along the Bay, often ending
up at one of the marinas in the Thousand Islands. Various sociasl
events are organised along the way, and the party spirit moves with
the fleet as we sail towards this year's destination.
And
of course, individual members take their boats, sometimes in a small
informal flotilla and sometimes just on their own, using the Club
Cruise as a springboard to explore the waters of the Bay and further
afield.
The
2006 Club Cruise took us to Prinyer's Cove, Waupoos and Gananoque.
Many members
used the week as a convivial start to their Summer getaway.
